NATIONAL CLEAN CITIES, INC. PROMOTES ALTERNATIVE FUELS IN DC HILL BLITZ
WASHINGTON, DC, Feb. 11, 2004 – National Clean Cities members were in Washington
DC today to meet with more than 110 Congressional representatives for the Annual
Washington Day Hill Blitz. The purpose of the meetings was to encourage
congressional representatives to support local Clean Cities Coalitions across
the country. NCC Inc. is a membership-based, non-profit organization that
strives to develop a robust and sustainable market for alternative
transportation fuels, clean and efficient vehicles, and advanced transportation
technologies. The group’s mission is to promote and help deploy alternative fuel
vehicles, their infrastructure, and advanced transportation technologies in
communities and along transportation corridors. National Clean Cities is asking
members of congress to increase funding of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Clean
Cities program by $5 million to $16 million overall for FY 2004. The additional
funding will be used to expand the Clean Cities Portfolio and support local
coalitions. The members traveled to their meetings in clean-burning natural gas
buses. “We’re asking representatives to support legislation that includes tax
incentives for all alternative fuels,” said NCC Executive Director, Greg
Zilberfarb. “The result will be a better environment, increased national energy
security, reduced dependence on imported oil, more economic opportunities and
the protections of public health.” The U.S. DOE Clean Cities Program is
comprised of approximately 80 locally based coalitions, representing 480
stakeholders, dedicated to the expansion and success of the alternative fuels
market in the U.S.
